The Goomaram
Creek Telephone Office, located in rural Queensland, served as a small telecommunications hub in the early 20th century. Established to connect the remote farming community to the wider region, the office facilitated essential communication through the manual exchange of telephone calls. It operated during an era when telephone technology was expanding into Australia's rural areas, supporting local agriculture and social interaction. Over time, advancements in technology and
infrastructure rendered small offices like Goomaram
Creek obsolete, leading to their closure. There is nothing here indicating its former existence and
no access. The school and the telephone office essentially operated from the same rural hub servicing the local farming families before the
population shifted and the school children were consolidated into Abercorn State School (which lies about 6 kilometres to the east).
