Alonnah is not the largest town on
Bruny Island. Dennes Point at the northern tip of the island tales that honour. But it is regarded as the "capital", as it is home to the Hotel Bruny and is located near
the junction of the two main roads on South Bruny. Just north of Alonnah the road continues south through the village to
Cape Bruny and its famous lighthouse or turns east to
Adventure Bay with its caravan
park, tour base and other facilities.
Both the hotel and
general store provide refreshment opportunities in Alonnah. The
boat harbour breakwater looks suspiciously like a road. And so it is, being salvaged from the floating bridge over the Derwent River in
Hobart.
