Pull over bay with a section of old bridge as a tourist attraction. This is Western Australia’s second oldest concrete bridge constructed in 1929 to 1930 and was the original
Ballinyoo Bridge, also known as the the
Murchison River Road Bridge. This was W.A.‘s last bridge to be constructed from fully imported components. The original bridge was designed by Ernest Godfrey and built by H. Martin & Co. Harry Martin in partnership with Robert Bunning had also secured contracts to build concrete bridges over the Gascoyne river at
Carnarvon and the Mirowa salt flats. Robert Bunning went onto found the wide chain of Bunnings hardware stores. The bridge was opened on 1 May 1930 and reported to be the highlight of the year for Murchison residence and provided a much-needed access and transport link across the
Murchison River particularly in times of flood deterioration and Ltd low carrying capacity led to the original bridge being replaced with a new structure in 2015 this span is from the original Ballew Bridge and has been preserved to recognise the historical significance of the original bridge structure. The new bridge is located 400 m south of this point.
