Information

The Burke & Wills Expedition passed through here in 1860. At Darlington, the homestead of Dr Thomas Baynton, they made their 5th camp on Friday 24th August 1860. Their camp site is still marked by a small clump of Osage Orange trees between the present homestead and the road, close to Pohlman's Creek, apparently the original site of the homestead. Thomas Alexander Browne (‘Rolf Boldrewood’) had lived at Darlington as a boy when his father, Captain Sylvester Brown(e), held the run before Dr. Baynton's occupation of it.
