The former mining town of
Shay Gap is now abandoned and is not open to the public due to asbestos contamination. The town of
Shay Gap was built to service iron ore mines in the surrounding area and was established by Mount Goldsworthy Mining Company. The
mine ceased operating in December 1993. Buildings and structures were relocated, demolished or sold.
