The Oasis is found along an 800m bush track from the
Burra Rock Road.
Nestled just to the north, and alongside a low
granite outcrop it is a beautiful representation of a natural soak – probably modified by early prospectors in the area from the 1890’s.
A magnet for wildlife; tracks of animals surround it. A Banded Lapwing nests here. The Oasis it not one of the main tourist areas along the
Burra Rock Road, so it maintains its natural attraction to the fauna.
There are artefacts from both early prospectors and that of the people who worked along the nearby Woodline in the 1920’s.
The
water in the Oasis is seasonal, usually drying up over the hot summer months.
Please don’t drive upon
the rock or
camp there. If you need to
camp, please
camp away from
the rock – there are some good spots nearby, adjacent to the track in.
Note that the nearest
toilets are approximately 6km away at
Burra Rock. Please take all your rubbish with you, and help keep the pristine natural state of the area as it is.
