The Garden is open from 7.30am to 6pm during winter and 7.30am to 9pm during Daylight Saving Time.Established in 1857, the
Bendigo Botanic Gardens is almost as old as
Bendigo itself with the site appearing on an 1854 plan of the White Hills township just 3 years after gold was first discovered in
Bendigo in 1851. The Garden is
Bendigo’s first public gardens and was included on the Victorian
Heritage Register in 2001 due to it's historical, architectural, scientific, botanical, aesthetic and social significance. The garden is known for it's eclectic mix of shade trees and lush green turf and is a very popular destination for both local residents and visitors alike. The Garden provides an excellent place for family get togethers, picnics, BBQ's and celebrations and is a special and much loved part of
Bendigo.
