Dingo Waterhole is a remote
bush camping area in Rinyirru (Lakefield) National
Park (CYPAL), on
Cape York Peninsula. The
campsite is situated beside a deep,
permanent waterhole on the low western bank of the Normanby River, surrounded by natural bushland. The riverside setting offers opportunities for birdwatching, wildlife observation and fishing. The
camping area accommodates a maximum of 8 people and 3 vehicles, with unnumbered sites. Access is by 4WD only, and off-road camper trailers are permitted.Facilities are limited to individual and communal fire rings, with no
toilets or mobile phone coverage. Campers must be fully self-sufficient and bring
drinking water, supplies and rubbish bags. Campfires and generators are permitted subject to
park conditions and fire restrictions.**Large saltwater crocodiles are frequently seen at this
waterhole.** The low riverbank provides little separation from the
water, so extreme caution is required. Do not swim or approach the
water's edge.**
Camping fees apply and bookings are compulsory prior to arrival.** Access is seasonal and may be restricted during the wet season. Check current
park alerts before travelling.
