Information

Murray-Sunset National Park, in Victoria's north-west corner, is the State's second largest national park. It is in one of the few remaining semi-arid regions in the world where the environment is relatively untouched. With its wide open landscapes, breathtaking sunsets and starry nights, its vastness and isolation, the park is not the place for a day trip - longer stays are recommended.

This remote and unspoilt corner of northwestern Victoria draws photographers from all over the world. Explore the islands of the Murray River by four-wheel drive in dry weather or by canoe after rain and camp under starry skies.

The park is well-named. Enjoy some of the finest sunsets in the world plus see the unique and world-famous Pink Lakes. Enjoy walks and camping nearby.

Murray-Sunset National Park is home to spectacular birdlife. Keep an eye out for the Malleefowl, Regent Parrot, Red-lored Whistler and Mallee Emu-Wren, which are all native to the area. Go canoeing, boating and fishing in the floodplains around Walpolla, Lindsay and Mulcra Island. This is an awesome place for wildlife. Spot goannas, emus, spotted bowerbird and colourful nectar-feeding birds.

The camping site at Pink Lakes on the southern shore of Lake Crosbie, the largest of the four lakes, has toilets, gas barbecues, picnic tables and fireplaces. Be self-sufficient with drinking water. Carry it in and/or know how to make untreated water safe for drinking.

Other structured camping grounds are at Mount Crozier, Lake Becking, Rocket Lake and Mopoke Hut.
There are also a number of remote campsites with facilities. There are eleven campgrounds in the park, with a range of basic facilities. Camping is free, and no bookings are required, however campers must be well-prepared and self-sufficient. No drinking water or bins are provided. There is bookable accommodation at the Shearers Quarters.
