The Jindalee Radio Receiving Station is a key component of Australia's Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN), a world-leading over-the-horizon radar (OTHR) system that provides extensive surveillance of the nation's northern air and sea approaches. The network employs a sophisticated principle of bouncing high-frequency radio waves off the ionosphere to achieve detection ranges of up to 3,000 kilometres (1,860
miles), a distance far beyond the line-of-sight limitations of conventional radars.
