Nogoa River Campground - QLD

Salvator Rosa is at the western edge of the Central Queensland Sandstone Belt. Camping is only available at this campground.

The camping area is flat and shady with 2 bollarded sections on either side of the road.

One section has 6 sites with firepits (4 of which also have a picnic table), and the other section has 2 sites with firepits and tables. Sites are not numbered and whilst booking is required site selection is on a first-comes basis.

Interestingly, the parks booking system offers 40 bookings which doesn't seem feasible.

The permanent water at Nogoa river crossing is a very short walk from the campground and is often used by campers to cool off in hot weather or bucket collection for taking back to camp.

A 4WD is required to cross the river and drive to the parks features, walks and lookouts. The road ends at Mitchell Springs. Total return distance from camp is 18.4km. The gently undulating two wheel track is sandy and very scenic leading to a number of excellent sandstone formations. The first and main point of interest is only 2.8km from camp although once there you’ll walk approximately 2km to view the sandstone formation called Spyglass Lookout and the unique sandstone wall called Hadrians Wall.
