Cockatoo Creek is a wide and rocky river crossing on the Old Telegraph Track and to navigate a safe passage across involves a bit of a zig zag. There are some deepish rock holes that need to be avoided so walk this crossing first. The exit on the northern side has a short steep climb up an eroded clay bank. On the north side of the creek you'll find a picnic shelter, toilets and pleasant campground.
August 2016 - 8 years later. The crossing hasn't changed but there is a lot of wear and tear on the clay bank exits. Signs of heavy use at the campground.
