The
Savannah Way crosses the
Leichhardt River as a concrete causeway and then it's 70 km of tar into
Burketown. Camping sites on both banks high up on the cliffs. Large sand banks deposited after each wet season need to be bulldozed away to open the road to traffic. Freshwater crocodiles can be seen here, it is rumoured that estuarine crocodiles are also seen here,
check local knowledge.
