Lake Mournpall
Camping Area is a peaceful
bush campground situated beside Lake Mournpall in
Hattah-Kulkyne National Park, north of
Ouyen and south of
Mildura in north-west Victoria. Surrounded by River Red Gums, native pine woodland and distinctive mallee vegetation, the campground provides a scenic base for exploring the
park's extensive system of freshwater lakes, wetlands and semi-arid bushland. The campground offers 16 unpowered campsites suitable for tents, camper trailers, campervans and caravans. Facilities include non-flush
toilets, fireplaces and picnic tables. Campers should bring their own
drinking water and be self-sufficient.The surrounding lake system supports abundant birdlife, including pelicans, ducks, spoonbills and other waterbirds, while the surrounding mallee habitat is home to a variety of woodland birds and native wildlife. Activities include bushwalking, birdwatching, photography, wildlife observation and exploring the lakes and surrounding bushland. Fishing and canoeing are also popular when
water levels permit.
Water levels in the Hattah Lakes system fluctuate considerably according to seasonal conditions and environmental
water flows. At times the lakes may be full and surrounded by thriving wetlands, while during extended dry periods
water levels can be very low.Access to
Hattah-Kulkyne National Park is from the Calder Highway between
Ouyen and
Mildura, with internal
park roads leading to the campground. Road conditions and access may be affected by rainfall, flooding or
park management activities.**
Camping fees apply and advance bookings are required year-round through Parks Victoria.** Individual campsites are not allocated during booking, so campers select an available site on arrival. Each
campsite accommodates a maximum of six people.Dogs and generators are not permitted. Campfires are restricted to designated fireplaces and must comply with current fire regulations. Take care when
camping beneath large River Red Gums, as falling branches can present a
hazard.For bookings and current
