The Whithorn Ranges are a small rocky range of worn
sandstone that are cut through by the remnants of the Anna Plains Track. These low hills are some 40 metres higher than the surrounding plain and provide a fantastic place to
camp. Several smaller “
pinnacles” or outcrops of rock stand alone amongst the ridges. Great
views are afforded to the south and west from the top of these hills. The
sandstone contains the remains of fossilised sea creatures such as tube worms and sea pens.
It is a wonderful place to spend a night largely sheltered from the easterly winds that sweep this region. A word to the wise though, collect some firewood before you arrive.
