Hi ExplorOz Reader
We’ve got a very important TRAVELLER app update coming soon that will affect ALL users, and we
want to make sure you're ready. Plus - if you've previously been a test user, please urgently scroll
down to the timing section to check what to do immediately.
What’s Changing?
We’re about to release version 9.4.0 of the Traveller app to fix a critical and increasingly common
issue with Trek syncing. This update introduces a completely new routing system and data storage
method,
meaning the old and new Trek systems are not compatible.
Here’s What You Need to Know:
- As part of the update, the existing Trek database structures will be flagged as requiring
download/sync.
- After the update, your existing Treks will not work correctly until the content sync completes.
- The content sync should start automatically the next time you open the app
while online and will typically complete within 5 minutes or less.
-
This means you will need to have at least a brief moment of internet connection — for example,
passing through a town, or using a friend’s Starlink — to allow the sync to complete.
- We are coding this update with full respect and care for those currently travelling, to keep any
disruption very limited.
Already Affected by Trek Issues?
If you’ve already experienced corrupted Treks, please note that this update will not fix them — those
Treks will still need to be deleted and recreated.
This update is designed to prevent the issue from occurring in future, and we’re confident the new
system resolves the root cause. If any problems do arise after updating, we hope you’ll work with us
to report them so we can continue refining the system.
Offline Travel / Update Considerations
If you rely on Treks and expect to be offline during your upcoming travel, please prepare to get
any
brief online access soon after the update to allow the sync to complete.
If this won’t be possible, you may choose to temporarily disable auto app updates to delay receiving
the update. Here’s how to do that:
- On Apple devices: Open the App Store, tap your profile icon, go to Settings, and turn off
App
Updates.
- On Android devices: Open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, go to Settings >
Network
Preferences > Auto-update apps, and choose Don’t auto-update apps.
- Windows devices: Open the Microsoft Store, click your profile icon (top right), go to App
settings, and turn off App updates.
Note: Disabling access to this app update is not recommended and may still not protect you
from future Trek issues which could occur during your trip.
The current version is increasingly causing issues, including:
- Treks not appearing on the map
- Corruption of Treks after saving
Device Compatibility
- Treks created in version 9.4.0 won’t work in older versions, so ensure you update all
devices to avoid compatibility issues.
- The web app will also automatically update to version 9.4.0 once fully tested. Any Treks created
in the web app at that version will not sync with older app versions, so updating all your
devices is essential.
- This update will also roll out to Windows via the Microsoft Store, so Windows users need to
update too.
Timing
We’re releasing the beta version of 9.4.0 today for a short 24–48 hour test. The public release will
follow shortly after — likely between this weekend and early next week, depending on the app stores
approval and release schedules which can vary between stores.
IMPORTANT FOR TEST USERS
If you’re currently enrolled in our Apple TestFlight or Google Play Beta programs and do not wish to
receive this imminent update, please urgently remove yourself from the beta program now to avoid
being automatically upgraded.
Looking Ahead
- Personal Trek Sharing is planned for rollout in version 9.5, which will complete the Trek update
project.
- Version 10 is coming later this year and will introduce the new map engine. Please note that the new
map engine will not be supported in the Microsoft Windows Store version of the app but will be
available in the web app.
Thanks as always for your support – we know Trek planning is a much-loved feature and we’ve worked
hard to deliver a fix that brings long-term stability and reliability going forward.
Happy Exploring!
