sounds like school holiday dates to me. You will have to pre-book camp sites at many places asap if you want to get a spot. It will be very busy.

Yep, You'll probably see less traffic in the way there than up the PDR.

Two suggestions that helped us enormously:

1. Invest $30 in Ron & Viv Moon's book - An Adventurer's Guide to Cape York (available on this site)
2. If you are going to do the Old Telegraph Track - use youtube to get a good feel for all the creek crossings.
