Planning a trip with a friend along the Murray. Most of the trip is pretty straightforward, but wondering if there will be problems with my friend towing a van from Tumut to Towong. We are coming from
Sydney and planning on driving from
Gundagai to Tumut to
Tumbarumba to Tooma and then Towong.
I'm not sure how big his van is (other than it is a twin axle van), he has a diesel patrol as his tow vehicle.
Thanks

In-Laws just did this with a single-axle van and I tow a ski boat up there regularly. The worst bit is probably
Gundagai to Tumut - few steep and windy bits. The downnhill run into Tooma has a stop/go in the middle of it due to subsidence of the road - been like it for 2 years. there are some steep pulls and narrow bits after Tumba but it's otherwise an OK run. Look out for stock movements - often not signposted.
Can recommend a coffee at 3 bears cafe in Tumba and make sure to stop at the top of the Tooma
Hill lookout - awesome view.

Thanks for that. It is always good getting local knowledge. There is only so much you can learn from maps and Google Earth.

We are thinking of spending the night at either Paddy River Falls, Paddy River Flat or Henry Angel Flat for the night.

That is useful information aussiedingo. Many times in years gone, by when I drove regularly between
Melbourne and
Sydney, I have seen the sign to Jingellic and often wondered what was there. The other sign that intrigued me is the one that points to
Wee Jasper.
I have researched
Wee Jasper and hope to visit it later this year. Jingellic will now be added to the itinerary, so thank you for the suggestion.
Cheers,
Kevin

Thanks. Sounds good. Unfortunately we have a bit of a tight timetable on this leg of the trip, so won't be able to follow up on this suggestion this trip.
