Hi Guys,
My brother and I are in the process of planning a fishing trip for this time next year up to the
Daly River (or others) to fish the run off.
Option 1. Fly in, stay onboard a mothership for 5 nights and fish from a dory with local guide supplied (Cost approx 4k each but only require a week off work)
Option 2. Tow boat from Central Queensland and and back - Approx 2.5 - 3.5 days travel each way (Cost approx 2k each but will prob take an extra week).
Has anyone here done this? Thoughts?
Cheers,
Ash

Advice from a person that stayed and fished from the Mango
farm on the Daly and
shady camp and caught nothing. If you are doing it just for the fishing, get professional assistance and get shown how to do it correctly. than do the trip yourself another time.
Still wouldn't swap the trip for anything though as one hell of an adventure. Couldn't afford the organised trip but would be worth it just for the lessons.

yes i agree with Honky, get with a guide first as locations that are good are also spaced far apart and you can go for days without catching one, they are not as easy to catch as you may think, you also can do a day trip out to salt/bluewater and they are good charters ........ lived up in Arnhem land for a bit and also in
Kakadu for 18 months .....

My wife, son and I have fished the
Mary River system from
Shady camp for a few years now using guides from Pt.Stuart Wilderness Lodge. We have had some spectacular trips(last year we each had 2 fish over a metre (up to1.8m) and some 100 fish each). Got back last week without a single fish for 3 days hard fishing-reason, no wet= no run off=no fish. No one was doing any good. My point is that we have fished the Daly in a hire boat without a guide with little success due to a lack of local knowledge and the same at the
Mary river. It is long way to go and expensive to not catch fish. Get a guide who will know were/when/how to fish the local system and you will have a ball. Do it yourself in those systems and risk doing a prop on a
rock bar, getting stuck for 8 hours on a quickly falling tide or worse( there are some huge lizards in that water). It,s not cheap but it's the best way to go.
Check with the locals as to what sort of run-off they have had before you go.

Thanks for the
feedback - we will rule out towing the boat in for this trip at least until we know where we are going.
