I wanted to share an experience that we had with the cover of our Dometic air-con. After a 6 week trip up North about 2 1/2 years ago, I was on the roof of our 'van washing off the dust etc when I noticed some cracks in the cover of the air-con. Thinking that it was a fibre-glass cover, I thought the cracks were just in the gel-coat & not right through. So when we went on a short trip a few weeks ago up to Sandy Cape just North of Jurien Bay, people in the van along side us noticed the cover missing. The cracks must have spread & the wind did the rest.
Our van is only 6 years old but this Dometic model is now obsolete & you can't get a new cover for them. I managed to get a 2nd hand one from a repairer for free but had to use silastic to repair the cracks in it as the covers are plastic & get quite brittle.
So it might be advisable to check the cover of your air-con for cracks in case you end up with a missing cover like us. (I also used hoop iron to secure the cover).
