High Country - June Long Weekend

Hi all,

Off to high country for 5 days from thursday before June long weekend.

First night will be Tom Groggin then.......

Ideas and suggestions please, looking for some good challenging tracks and some awesome camping locations. Travelling with 3 and 5 year old so half day driving in between no problems.

Look forward to your thoughts....

Thanks

Oliver

Recently spent 4 weeks in the high country pick of the many camping spots we stayed at would be Sheepyard Flat, Nug Nug, Jokers Flat and Walhalla free camp north of town.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't a lot of the tracks closed from June to October? According to the Parks Victoria seasonal maps, both Davies Plain and Pinnibar might be closed so crossing at Tom Groggin would be no good. You might have to pick your spots carefully?

Davies Plain and Kings plain out of Tom Groggin closed on May 1st.

Others inc Tom Groggin track and Mt Pinnabar close on the Thursday after Queens Birthday, this year the 13th June.

Bring muddies and make sure your 3 and 5yo are prepared to help you winch if there has been rain.

It's excellent that they don't put them in alphabetical order. :-)

LOL they don't even group tracks that are next to each other together in the list.

I think it's a sinister plot by Parks Vic to keep 4wds out. Even most of the old track closure maps are gone from the website.
