We'll be in Mildura for next week for 2 months and intend to visit our number 1 son inMelbourne.

Had a look at a trip planner and was surprised to see 527 km can be done in about 5hrs 15mins.

I have not been on that road for about 40 odd years and I'm sure it took a lot longer.

Is it now a 4 lane freeway or something, averaging around 100kph sounds really good?

G'day Boo Boo
From "Majura", lots of people seem to miss the "ild" bit, to Bendigo, is very close to 400km and then it is another 150 to Melbourne. Not sure about other trip planners.
IF you are going to slow for towns, official people will expect you to do that, the 550km will take you 61/2 hrs of solid driving.

For a period south of Mildura it is 110kmh and the rest is 100kmh or less and only when you get to the Calder Fleaway can you resume 110 at Harcourt 2lanes sth and then back to 80kmh at the approach to Melb near Calder Park Raceway. Just as you get to there you will see the Familiar Family restaurant chain both sides of the two lanes both ways.

I'm a bit puzzled by the "for next week for two months"? I spent a week there one afternoon a little while ago.

Cheers

G`day Boo Boo,

You can do Mildura to Bendigo in about 4 hrs.
However unless you have a need to visit Bendigo it is a fair bit shorter and a lot quicker to take the Calder Alternate Hwy from Marong across to Just south of Ravenswood where you link up with the Freeway all the way to Melbourne, this way you bypass the slow drag through Bendigo.

Stay safe,

Scrubby.

Did a side trip down the Oodnadatta Track two weeks back and remember catching up with you outside the Marree General Store. I think that must have been three years ago when we had the KK in tow

If you do the Loddon Valley Highway, just north of Bendigo beware of the little teeny town ("town"?) called Durham Ox. Put on your cruise control!
It's a pleasant drive through the country and easy to accidentally get carried away with yourself as you zip up the almost straight road...Durham Ox was well known for the radar when I used to live down that way!!

G'day all

Thankyou very much for the information.

Robyn, we are carting a little caravan around and it sort off acts like a cruise control, lol, but I do use the cc on flatish roads.
Thanks for the heads up.
