At the moment we are travelling from the Top End back to Central Victoria and we would like to follow the Darling River back from Bourke to Wentworth. We have 2 on roads and 1 off road van. The boys in the on road vans would like to know what road conditions we can expect on the way down. Its been mostly tar and cement so far. Would probally prefer to travel thru Louth/ Tilpa. Cheers Paddy.

there is a dirt road from Wilcania to Menidee now we have not had any big rain here in Broken hill for few weeks so the road will be dry but I am sorry I do not know the condition of that road

Burke to wilcania is tar

The other Option is to drive to broken Hill and onto menidee from there that is tar .

The last time that we travelled from Bouke to Wilcannia it was all dirt and some of it not so good. Suggest that you call the Louth or Tilpa pub for an update.
Cheers, Bundy

We were on the East side of that road a few weeks ago and I can assure you that it is NOT tar...according to the map the West side is not either, we then swapped to the West side from Wilcannia on and it was fairly rough in places and it is supposedly considered better than the East side. Either way be prepared for a roughish ride....cheers

Bourke to menindee is all bitumen. Travelled on it early this year in an ambulance. My wife told me it was bitumen all he way i was floating in a sea of morphine.

Hi just let you know we have had a decent drop of rain over night here in Broken hill so they expect some more so it may take a week or so to dry out some of the dirt road around the area
