Hi
Shortest route is via Newell, but explorz only shows via coast
which is best/easiest way to go

Newell would be the quickest and easiest I reckon. A lot of open stretches with less towns.

You'll just have to contend with the trucks if you go the Newell....

True ... but arguably better than the greys and their vans.

I am a mature age bloke towing a van and have never had trouble with trucks on the Newell, in fact I have never seen 'all the trucks' people complain about, where are they?

Rod
I also qualify as a "
grey beard". Only difference is I don't tow a van, however, often I'd far rather share the road with 95% of the trucks I've encountered than 15% the balance.

The Newell so much easier. Straight up the highway, turn left after Albury, continue through Wagga Wagga to West Wyalong, and then follow the road to
Brisbane.
Don't worry about the trucks. ( I prefer to travel with them)Towns are pretty straight forward to get through.
Going up through
Sydney, at 3am is fine, but if the sun is up, expect a lot of traffic.

If you are not in a hurry, like pretty
places and don't like traffic: Albury/Bathurst/
Bylong Valley Way/Muswelbrook/
New England

Thxs for your replies
Newell is about 100km shorter, but never traveled it before
So will try new road, and trucks don't normally bother me :)
After Brissy, it's off to Fraser Is :)

Once you hit Brissy, call into one of the big servos you will see along the road before you hit the toll ways, and you can buy a one way pass though the tolls. Same for your return journey.
Of course if you already have an etag that covers the area, don't worry about what I just said.

Fitzy, if going up the Newell, there is a short cut from Dubbo to Coonabarabran via
Mendooran, about 20k's shorter and no hills and limited trucks. Height restricted
bridge at
Mendooran. You go thru Dubbo and follow the signs to
Mendooran North of the town, when you get to
Mendooran, follow the signs right after the
bridge to Coonabarabran. Fairly easy to follow. Have a great trip.

I always go this way, the turn off just north of Dubbo is at Brocklehurst (just after the long
bridge) then turn right about 5 km over the railway,(easy to miss this turn off if half asleep)
At
Mendooran turn right just after the
bridge.
Be warned that this road is a favorite for speed cameras.

Take the Newell ... its an easy run.
As mentioned above ... The shortcut through
Mendooran is a pleasant alternative ... At Brocklehurst, when heading north - Turn right at the Terramungamine fire truck shed.
Watch out for Emus in the first half ... and Roos sfter
Mendooran.
Theres also interesting things to do on the Newell ..... like ...
Pondering the logic of those great big, overly reflective signs ... that ask you whether you have tired eyes ..
or .....
After
miles and
miles of looking at expensive and unnescessary, Stop, Revive, Survive every 2hrs, signs ... You can wonder why,
... In spots like the short 1hr section, between Coonabarabran and Narrabri ... There are 6 rest areas ??? ...
