Free camp near Albury

Hi all.

Soon I have to travel from Sydney to Ballarat and I have two days to do it as I am not to much of a hurry. I am looking for a free tent camp sight either side of Albury and not to far off the freeway. I have looked in camps 6 but they don't give great detail. A grassy spot near a river would be ideal. Any suggestions welcome.

Regards Peter

Peter,
I linked a few items to your thread that may help (sorry for the two extra stuff ones I did). However using the camps & accom link on The Murray I can see Richardsons Bend it has a decent rating close to Albury. May be worth a check out, you may get more information and hopefully place references to other locations but just using the system gave me this result.

R onto Geerings Rd.
Then L onto Moss Rd and north to the River

Hi
On the south side of Howlong just over the first bridge on the left side
Has toilets I think there is or was a couple of long term stayers there.
Then you can continue on to Chiltern or via Rutherglen to the Highway.
Hope this helps
Cheers safe driving

2 days to do it in, go via Canberra, Cooma, Jindayne, Tom Groggin, Corryong. That a good trip for day one, so boring on the Hume!

Plenty of River (possible) camps up the Mitta Mitta River and others.

Might even see you down there in Sunny Ballarat, I going in 3 weeks from NSW Southern Highlands, catch up with family and grandies.
Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought stupid than to open it and remove all doubt

Have lived in Albury 36 years.
If you can afford the time, agree the high country would be the go. Jingellic pub/campground is an awesome spot.
If only a quick easy overnighter, Waterworks would be the go.
Pretty much directly opposite Albury airport entrance.
Easy on/off freeway (take Borella Rd/Riverina Hwy exit, and head East).

Cheers, Pete.

Just re-read Alloy C/T reply.
If we are talking about the same spot, the turn off is only about 2 K's from FWY.
Google maps shows it as Waterworks Rd, which becomes Island Rd.
There is one further out (Hawkescoate Rd), but I reckon all the river access is now private land.

Cheers, Pete.
