The Alpine Rally will take place November 29 Friday,Saturday and Sunday. The Alpine is the second 'oldest' rally-after the Monte Carlo Rally.
The event will start and be centred around Lakes Entrance- Victoria with stages using the forestry trails and bush tracks in the Cann River, Orbost, Nowa Nowa areas.
The Rally is for the 'classic' type cars. Porsche, Escorts, Mercedes, Volvo, Fiat, heaps of Dattos, Galants & Lancers, Commodores & BMW.Even a VW Beetle !!
A total field of 98 entrants.
Car 1 is Alistair McRae (Brother of the late Colin) in a $120000 Ford Escort.
I'll be navigator/co-driver Car 54. The ex- Colin Bond Repco Rally Works Cortina !!
So if you're in the area, check it out. Spectator instructions will be available so you can head out into the forest and see what happens.
Just had a look through the list again. There's a Ford Mustang and a Plymouth Fire Arrow. (Could be a handful)...

See ya in the Bush

Gday Wambat
I still have my jacket from 1967 Alpine rally, given to me by the Renault Australia team. I was a service mechanic Sydney based.

Wombat,
I am working on the Alpine as part of the amateur radio group (WICEN) that is helping provide communications for the event. We track the cars through the event to identify any that are overdue at the controls and the Safety points.
I'll be in the at the Orbost Football Ground on Saturday and Forest Tech at Lakes Entrance on Sunday, so stop in and ask for Wobble or Chooky.
Just follow the coax cables from the antennas to the radios.
