Albany - Dog Friendly Activities/beaches

Hi guys,

My wife, dog and I are all heading down to Albany soon to go camping for a week. We've found a few dog friendly campsites around the coast (hopefully not too busy!) but can anyone recommend any dog friendly beaches, walks, cafes or activities that we can visit on our holiday?

Thanks!

Hi Charlie,
Was in Denmark Tourist centre this morning and was informed that there is absolutely no accommodation (B&B, Hotel, Motel C/van park, P&W sites, freecamp sites) vacant between Walpole and Albany as at this morning.
There may be a few sites at Bremer Bay as at 9.30am this morning.

Of course this may change quite quickly as people leave after the new year.

If you can put off your trip till after school holidays, you shouldn't have any problems anywhere.

Disco.

Thanks Disco. That's not great news although we half expected it. We're going to leave on the 1st, so hopefully that'll help. Do people usually leave after the 1st?

Thanks again!

Charlie,
The South Coast generally is pretty crowded and hence accommodation is in short supply till school goes back but that doesn't say you won't find a place to camp up. eg; Denmark grows from around 5000 to around 10000 for most of the school holiday period.

Again generalising, caravan parks often won't take dogs during the school holiday periods, too many kids to be really sure about safety and the risk of kids being nipped or worse, with the possibility of litigation and insurance issues following any incident.

If it was me, I would contact any/all of your preferred options and ask to be notified when a vacancy occurs, even to the extent of giving them your email and mob phone no and being ready to travel at relatively short notice.

Hope this helps

Disco.

As has been mentioned already, Cosy corner East is free camp but definitely crowded. Unfortunately is always first in best dressed. As far as eateries go we have had lunch over at Denmark Hot Bread Shop and have never had probs sitting outside with our dog.(hamburgers to die for and cheap). Same goes with quite a few in Denmark, but being a busy time that may change. Outside of normal holiday periods, give Denmark Riverbend Caravan Pk.(off Scotsdale Rd.) a go. Definitely dog friendly then. Your dog will even get to socialise too !

Close or in Albany
Dog friendly beaches (not camping) almost every beach on the South coast (as long as its not national park or A Class reserve)
Ledge point beach is good, Large portion of Middleton beach (Off Griffith St) all along Oyster Harbour say The esplanade in Lower King (great spot)
Out of town you have Mutton Bird, East Cosy Corner (also camping)
Cosies Cafe has a bowl with water outside for dogs ALMOST the bottom of York st on right hand side
Pleasant walk on tracks, beach and grassed verges from Albany town site to Little Grove (part of the Bibblumn Track)
And a must is the walk from Middleton beach along the board walk and path system around the base of Mt Adelaide and Mt Clarence and the forts.
Have a nice break

Kind Regards

There are lots of beaches and islands which are pet friendly, where you can enjoy and can take your pet with you such as Haleaha Beach, Solomon Island, Roseland Peninsula. If you are a person who likes to admire natural beauty and wish to spend holiday in such a place, then Solomon Islands will be a perfect place for you. It has vast landscape and vibrant marine life. Accommodation amenities here are also fine. Broad Leaf Villas, King Solomon hotel, Fafa Island Resort are some of the supreme hotels and resorts that serve superlative hospitality service.

Hi all,

Thank you for your replies, it was great to see such a positive response. The trip was great and we found plenty of places to take the dog.

For those in the future who might read this post:

Panorama Campsite (Off Frenchman Road -14 Panorama Rd) was dog friendly and situated right on dog beach, next to a large scrub area that was also dog friendly.

Goode Beach (12A La Perouse Rd) is a dog friendly beach with amazing white sand that stretches for a couple of miles. A pefect place to take the hound.

The WW2 forts along Fort Road was dog friendly and an interesting day out (on a lead).
The windfarm was also a lovely walk along the coast and dog friendly too (on a lead).

Lastly, (no where near Albany) we discovered Lane Poole Reserve, 100kms south of Perth. A beautiful forest reserve area with lakes and rivers for swimming. Camping was great (advised to prebook on the website dpaw.wa.gov.au) and is also dog friendly (on a lead)

Thanks again for all your help!!!
