Hi all,

Well, we've just clocked over five years at Mt Dare, we've had an interesting, sometimes challenging, with a few quite terrifying times here.

We started in drought in march 2009, survived the floods of 2011 & 2012, managed to lose two cars to the floods, survived the plague of mice, rats & bugs that occur after the floods & are now moving back into Drought.

But as happens with all things it's time to move on, Karen & I have been offered a challenge to manage a Caravan Park in Tennant Creek, it's pretty run down & will need a lot of TLC to get it back up to where it should be.

That, with the move back to the Territory & all of the associated challenges that will provide will keep us occupied for some time to come.

We've had a varied life at Mt Dare, with managing the pub, dealing with a variety of interesting, strange & sometimes painful people, dealing with tourists, local police, national park personnel, medical emergencies, vehicle accidents & breakdowns, trailer repairs & Simpson Desert recoveries.

We've made some good friends on both sides of the Desert as well as in Alice Springs, & ExplorOz & hope to maintain those friendships.

I personally will miss the sometimes hectic life here, but am definitely ready for a change, moving back to a small town will provide that.

Karen, Connor & I would like to thank Dave & Mellissa for letting us grow into our positions at Mt Dare, & wish them well for the future.

Good luck in your new venture Jeff & karen,

We are passing through Tennant Creek on our way to the Kimberley mid May this year.
Hopefully you will be in residence by then?

We will be at the Tennant Creek caravan Park from the 31st of March.

There is a lot of work to do, but we'll be there!

David Cox will have to come back, at least for a while.

It is up for sale, so maybe someone will buy it?

Five years is a great effort, well done. I have always enjoyed my visits to Mt Dare, you and Karen have set the bar pretty high we will just have to wait and see how your replacements do. The big positive here is that Tennant Creek is not a town I would normally stay at but I am guessing the CP is about to improve out sight so I for one will be giving it a go when next I pass, which should be sometime in August. Best of luck in your new endeavour.

All the very best Jeff, Karen & Connor. We have had a few visits to Mt Dare over the years and thoroughly enjoyed our times there and seeing the changes being made. Most of our previous trips have been across the Desert, but in May last year, we stayed there on our way to drive along Binns Track. We enjoyed a great meal, (a couple of beers) and some very good advice from Karen on the early parts of the track. Much appreciated. We are heading for NT next year and will certainly camp at your new spot. Cheers and thanks for the great advice you contribute to this forum.

G'day Jeff

Bit of a shame we can't catch up again before I bring my next goup thru later this year but I'm sure it won't be long and we will meet again "up the creek" lol

Well done on your great work at Mt Dare !

All the best and I hope everything goes well for you !

Agree with previous messages - good luck in your new venture and you'll be missed at Mt Dare when we make another visit in June. But as others have said, you will provide a reason to stay at Tenant Creek when previously we've fuelled up and kept going !!

Geeze! So many well wishes, thanks a lot all.

It was a hard decision to leave at this time, but we need to move on for the best of the family.

I'm sure that whoever Dave gets to look after the place will do as well or better than us, I will still be coming down for my desert fix as time & workload permits.

Looking forward to exploring a new country, as well as being a bit closer to the top end & maybe a few trips to the gulf for some Barra fishing...

BTW, I don't think that any of the "painful people" were ExOz members... lol.

Jeff & Karen. I will always remember the advice, friendship and help. Spot on mate.

Thanks and all the best for the future. We do occasionally stay at caravan parks and if we get the chance will drop in and annoy you wit a beer one day.

Thanks to both of you.

Jeff,

Thanks for the lend of your Jerry Cans last year when you were out of Diesel and we rolled up to the closed pumps in dismay, and also for the call to Finke to find us some supplies too .

We appreciated your efforts to assist, and there are also so many others that have appreciated your assistance.

Best of luck with the new venture ....

Mic

All the best for the new life in Tennant Creek.

And thanks again for getting us out of a bog about 100 metres from the hotel a few years ago.

Was one of the best bogs ive ever managed. Caused by me missing a detour sign and made worse by my stubborness. Still talk about it today, was a great trip.
