Wonder what happened to earlier members on EO that always contributed greatly to this site, like 'Truckster" "Willem" "Des Lexic" and so on, been that long I've forgotten half the names now, oh yeah and that bank manager bloke from S.A. too, what was his name again? LOL. To much snow on top now
Cheers Ray

Yep ... bunch or larrikins that lot. Truckster certainly had a way of rubbing people up the wrong way. And there was the poor bloke (name escapes me) who lost a son? in that tragic road accident. I
well remember Willem taking umbrage to a suggestion of
mine that he pension off his old Patrol (he thought I was referring to him personally, rather than his
old truck).
A few did tend to feel (or at least gave off the impression) they had some sort of personal ownership of the whole show which was one of the reasons I gave it a miss for a few years.

You are possibly referring to Bonz, who tragically lost a son in a road accident. He is still around the traps.

I think Bonz actually lost 2 kids in that accident. I keep thinking how awful that would be...... My sincere condolences to him and his family for what happened.

A lot of people just move on, change interests, get a job, get a wife..get a life.
I know one very capable lady wood worker, who was very solid on a certain
forum and very
well respected.....seems her husband resented the fact that she had dozens of genuine male friends......she just stopped posting and has not been heard on that
forum since.
stuff happens.
cheers

You missed out on Pesty who also lurks on another
forum along with Roachie and one or two others.
Knowing some of them personally, I can say that in many cases they just got tired of the tightening up of the
forum rules, resulting in a less conducive
forum group and moved on.
We, in SA used to have a gathering now and again and members (or visitors) got to know others on a more personal basis during a weekend camp, or a day time meeting in a park.
I guess moderation is the right of David and Michelle, the site owners. Unfortunately the adverse effect is that over moderation will sometimes tip the scales and folk get indignant that they can't express themselves in the way they would like too, so they leave the site. The effect is a loss of camaraderie that is hard to regain.
I have been close to chucking it in myself once or twice, but have managed to just withdraw from the
forum for a period of time, then "ease" myself back in.
Group gatherings, either localized or National, are a great way to meet other folk and better appreciate individual personalities, but it is not always possible to attend these gatherings.
I can name a string of interstate folk I have met from time to time but won't attempt to name them as I will undoubtedly miss someone out.
So, keep as much camaraderie going as possible, to help keep the Exploroz
forum as friendly and informative as possible, appreciate other folks point of view and just lie low for a bit if someone "browns you off" with a comment you may find aggressive.

Your
spot on Bill. I met quite a few people in the old days and I'm still in contact with a few of them.
We had some great times on here in days gone past obviously to the angst of others and the moderators.
Personally, I keep an eye on the
Forum but contribute little.
Cheers

Hi
Moderators get criticised for over moderatiing and under moderating. Personally I don't think moderation can be used as an excuse for no longer frequenting the site, but that's my opinion. If you carry out an on topic discussion in a civilised manner (as 99.99% of
forum users do) you can discuss away till the cows come home - cant see how that isn't conducive to a good
forum.
Cheers
Greg

I also miss some of the older brigade, and drop by here only occasionally, time and interest permitting. There are a couple of very good contributors whose exploits I enjoy reading, but it is a bit sterile and humorless beyond that for my own tastes.
Still to each his own, and those that enjoy it and get something from it should certainly continue to do so.

I left a couple of years ago when the old mob started to get moderated for any personal chit chat.
That is not bad moderating, it is just the owners wishing to take the site in a new direction. It seems like they made the right decision, as the site has grown considerably.
Willie.

One of the problems is that when you put something in writing, the reader can miss-screw what you are saying, and they end up getting upset.
Where as, if you were eye balling them, and said the same thing, they wouldn't bat an eye lid,

Hi Baz, I've always had the same thought that emotions or feelings don't show when you are just typing something on a keyboard, apart from the usual "LOL" etc sometimes it is too easy to read something and take it in an entirely different context than was intended. Maybe if we had easy access to smiley emotives or whatever they are called would help. I tend to read a message a few times if I have any reason to feel upset just to make sure I am not doing the OP an injustice Cheers Ray

Hi ray, a few were upset about the experts who know everything, without hands on experience. You know , my uncles cousins daughters brother in-laws aunt had so and so happen, thus the expert is born.
Its good to see that some of the old names are still around.
We had some very talented folk on here over the years, but a lot seem to have given up, With 40yrs plus in the trade I have though of packing it in too but I!d miss friday funnies.
Bushy.

yes people move on for all sorts of reasons
interestingly when seeing this post i looked up the attendence list for the first NSW/ACT gathering held in Bendethra in aug 2004
there were 7 members in attendence
Baz( nsw). fatz, PaulJ.ACT, Well 55,Penguin, Cokeaddict
Myself and my son ( non member)
as far as I am aware only myself and well 55( reincarnated as Tony ACT) are still active on the site
interestingly with the exception of Penguin( Mike and Ruth) who no longer appears on member list and whom I havent seen since the 2006 gathering I am happy to say I have regular contact with all the others thru other forums. in fact have camped with 2 on seperate occassion in the last month and spoken to a couple of others on the phone.
Admittedly I usually log into 5 forums most days.
I must admit that I have found the newer forums are the more active in organising "Listed events" as the people on those forums endevour to meet up. once contacts are made it seems that follow up trips are organised thru pm's and other methods eg facebook rather than open adverts.
Amongst the people listed I am aware of a variety of reasons why the ones who have dropped out have done so.
regards
Howard

Whatever happened to the bloke with the "Unix" type username.
He always had the very best of everything 'toy-wise' (4x4, caravan/trailer, boat, computer equipment, etc) and was God's gift to
Australia. Seemed like nothing out here measured up to himself, his equipment etc.
