Hi All, We are thinking of getting a dash camera. Hoping to get some good water crossing shots etc. Has anybody got any recommendations and is it hard to put the video onto the ipad etc.
Thanks in advance

I have a Uniden IGO 300, works fine when 4wding and on the road. Picture is not as sharp as go pro, but for less than $100 I expect that. I put a 32GB card in and can record heaps of action. Some dash cams have GPS to record speed and other things but I don't have a need for that.

Sue,

I do have a very hi-tec but also very cheap method of videoing from inside the vehicle.

Take 2 heavy duty rubber bands, next you will require a mobile phone that is capable of taking video. Most mobile phones have this function.

Using the rear view mirror set the mobile phone up so that the lens has a good view of the road ahead.
Hold phone in place with the 2 rubber bands. It might take a bit of setting up so make sure that you are stationary for this process.
Set the phone ready to video, and with a push of a button you are recording.
This has two advantages.
1. You can see what you are recording in real time.
2. It can be on social media with in seconds of the river crossing

I have used this method to video a camel running on the CSR last year for the first time and it worked out OK.

REPCO have an imitation Go-Pro on sale at the moment for $59. Does all the good things and comes with a water proof case, windscreen mount, handle bar mount and helmet mount.
I bought one and it seems to do the trick very nicely.
Check out their website.

Rob,
Sadly, no it doesn't. I guess for $59 it would be a big ask to have those sort of functions.

Hi there Geoff.
I have a BlackVue HD WiFi GPS Vehicle Drive Recorder with 16GB card for about 6months now and could not be happier with it.
There is a newer model out now BlackVue Dual Camera HD WiFi GPS Dashcam with 16GB card.which records both front and rear.I have NO connections with the seller .
Just happy to give positive comments on this product.

I bought mine from Camzilla here in Sydney.

Vehicle recorders

hope this helps if you haven't already bought a dash cam
