Hi Guys,

We will be travelling by Nissan Patrol turbo diesel with POD Trailer in October from Oran Park, to Cameron's Corner via Bourke and Wanaaring and if enough time onto Innamincka but using Google maps km vs travel time i am unsure if these figures they quote are correct. Is there anyone who has travelled these roads recently and confirm if travelling is very slow due to road conditions.

Thanks in advance

Cheers Rob.

Google Maps Km and travel times:

Bourke to Wanaaring - 190km and 4hrs 45mins = (42.69km/ph) ?

Wanaaring to Tibbooburra - 228km and 6hrs 35mins = (35.90km/ph) ?

Tiboorburra to Cameron's Corner - 140km and 4hrs 20mins = (33.33km/ph) ?

Cameron's Corner to Innamincka - 264km and 11hrs 50mins = (22.95km/hr) ?

Those times are ridiculous unless there has been mass rainfall. I've driven Nyngan to Cameron Corner in a longish day....wouldn't recommend it, just saying I had to do it once. The roads are all decent dirt roads under normal conditions so I would allow 60-80 kph as a guide. Weather will change things and there are lots of rocks on the road as you get near Tibooburra.

Have done that road several times and agree with the 60-80k average unless it is wet

Hi mikehzz and AlbyNSW,

Yes i could not believe the travelling times i was reading and thought this has to be a mistake.
My son and i have 8 nights and are hoping to travel from Oran Park (near Camden, NSW) and travel to Innnamicka and back again but did not think i will have enough time.

Thanks for your response as your experience is greatly appreciated.

Cheers Rob

I agree, they're normally decent dirt roads.

From CC to Innamincka there are several routes & they all take about half the time stated.

The bore track is a nice drive & I think the Epsilon - Omicron road is even better. You won't meet too many other travellers on that road though!

Have a great trip!

the bore track is permanently closed through Bollards Lagoon Stn
due to idiots ripping it up in the wet .

In 2011 I drove from Camerons Corner to Tibbooburra, waited about an hour for the roadhouse to cook us some toasted sandwiches and coffee and then drove to Bourke.

Left at 8.00am, got to Bourke about 4.30pm

Travelled about 90 KPH most of the way (as an average, some less some more) and safely!!

Google Maps has rocks in their head!!

We did Tibooburra to Cameron Corner (in a 2007 Kia Sorento) in 2 hrs (it was early September, hot and windy and we stopped for just a few minutes at the big yellow bus and that was it until Cameron Corner).
Innamincka was about another 3 and a half hours on. Again, no stops because it was pretty warm. Some big corrugations about half an hour past Moomba but it's a pretty good road as far as isolated roads go because of Moomba's existence.
ELEVEN hours from Cameron Corner to Innamincka?!
What were they driving?! A 1976 120Y?!

Love to know how they got their figures!!

:)

think the Yellow Bus is between CC & Innamincka .... :-)

that aside from Camden you'd may Nyngan on the 1st day if you get off early - probably Bourke or even Tibbo on 2nd day - the CC for lunch and Innamincka on 3rd day if you're pushed for time - easy done in 4 days

Hi Scott and Mikehzz,

Yes looking to leave Penrith about 6AM and get a good early start, hope my son (16) can wake up that early ha ha. he is very keen to go so i think he will be fine.

Damn Google Maps.........reckons Oran Park to Innamincka via Bourke, Wanaaring, Tibooburra and Cameron's Corner is 1561km and 36hrs driving. Not sure if and of that is correct.

Cheers

I agree with the other members ideas, the google figures are ridiculous. Get a paper map out - work on 80k's average and have fun! Safe travelling. Cheers Toni

As soon as Google maps routes leave the bitumen, they slap on at *least* double travel time (in general).
Eg. Wilcannia - Bourke, bitumen via Cobar 420km = 4.5hrs
Via dirt along east side of the Darling 334km = 9.5hrs
I did that section in just over 4 hrs before Xmas.

Our SA outback roads can be slow sometimes due to rough conditions, or wet (if they aren't closed), but in general they are fairly reasonable to travel at 70 - 80 km/hr.

Know a bloke in Sydney who went to Camerons Corner and back in 1 weekend...left late Thusday night and got back mid Sunday..

A lot of non stop driving for him, but your time limit will be very achievable ...

Hi to everyone who posted here,

We could not believe how incredibly outraged and funny you all were with your comments.
What a relief that we will not need to revel all day and all night for two weeks to get to Innamincka, ha ha.

Look forward to a great father and son trip.

Thanks again and regards

Rob and Matt

Hey John,

It would be fantastic if you guys could come as I always prefer to travel with another vehicle for safety but also great company.
If you don't go to Fraser island then come with us.
