The Idlers 4WD Club will be having an 8 vehicle trip along the Madigan Line starting in early July. Does anyone else plan to be there around that time? We will have an HF radio and for safety reasons it is always handy to know who is around and to maybe swap notes on track conditions, that's of course if there is a track.

We plan to be at old Andado Sat 12th July before heading over the Maddigan.
We will be four vehicles, with sat phone and HF. That date may vary as we will be doing a lot of Kms on a trip before then and anything can happen.

Well would you believe this. Out itinerary has us at Mt Dare for the nights of 10th and 11th July and Old Andado on Sat 12th July. We will be leaving Melbourne on 3rd July and getting to Mt Dare via Marree, Warburton Track, mostly Rig road across the Simpson so our dates may also vary. I tried to find "loafer" in the members directory to send you a private message and suggest we have a chat, but you do not seem to be there. So I still suggest we have a chat but to do so you will need to send a PM to me. Cheers.

We did a Madigan trip in June/July last year. There was a section from The Twins to somewhere around camp 6 where we could not find a track and so went our own way. I suspect everybody else (not that there are many Madigan Line travellers) either heads up through camps 3-5, which you are not supposed to do, and then across to Camp 6 or they go straight up the Colson track and cut across to Camp 6.

In any case from Camp 6 onwards there were well defined wheel tracks the entire rest of the way to Adria Downs station so I don't think you'll have any trouble.

It is an awesome trip. The driving is not particularly difficult, certainly no harder than any other desert trip (apart from the off-track sections we had to do) but it is very remote and I loved the fact that we drove for 10 days without seeing another soul.

ando,
We went from the Twins (S24 48 57.5 E135 44 04.5) on an 80 deg heading for 28km to the Colson Line, (S24 46 34.4 E136 00 19), then 43 deg for 20km to Camp 6, (S24 38 29.0 E136 08 44.0). You could not get a permit to go via Camp 3,4 &5. The track was visible with large spinifex clumps, but this could change. Enjoy the trip.

Cheers,

Bill
