Simpson Desert

Hi all,
We are heading off shortly to cross Simpson from Birdsville to Mt Dare and need to know how I find out about LPG suppliers before Birdsville & along the oodnadata track ,
Can anybody tell me if there is a website that can tell me where we can get LPG before Birdsville & after Dalhousie heading south ??

Thanks
Heaps

Unbelievable lack of responses , !

Surely someone knows where the Gas sellers are ?

maybe everyone is just to busy Facebooking and tweeting about utter cra rather than assisting others.

Mate it's the night after a long weekend.
You only asked an hour ago.
Maybe people are getting on with their normal non-internet lives.
Have patience.

Looking for adventure.

Take it Steady Lenny

You submitted your post at 20.58 and by 21.39 you're whingeing no-one has given you the information that you could have found out yourself by doing a little bit of research !!

I'm guessing that if you were to break down on the Oodnadatta Track ( notice 2 t's ) you'd complain the roadside assist took more than 15 minutes to help you !

Glad I don't travel with you !

Cheers

Gazz

Ps I know where the gas suppliers are ( ha ha)

Unsteady Lenny,
Coober Pedy and Leigh Creek are the last places for LPG.
I have known people to go to Leigh Creek and miss out because they ran out, so worth phoning ahead - Hawker would be the place before that, as I don't think Copley has LPG.
Just also be aware that you can no longer get ULP at Lyndhurst or Parachilna.

BTW, you need to leave your attitude at home - it doesn't go down well with outback folk.

Howdy Guys

I just received a private member message from Steadylenny - I would love to copy and paste it here for all to see how bad this guys attitude is but think it's best not to embarrass him any further !

I just sent him one back with a reasonably polite suggestion on how to rectify his problem !

I understand everyone is different and we all need to pull back a bit sometimes - but I'm guessing Steadylenny is one of those people when travelling this big brown land gives all the people who do the right thing a bad name as 4wdrivers !

Happy and safe travelling

Gazz

Gazz,

One of the good points of the Member Message facility is that it keeps the dirty linen off the "Front Page". LOL

Hey Gaz.

After reading the OPs first couple of posts I had a two word answer for him, but I'd be warned for using abusing language, so didn't bother.

Allan

Forums are funny things sometimes !

I have upset my fair share of people on this great site and likewise a few people have upset me. A good friend of mine has an online multi national internet marketing business and has always said that it is very difficult to express yourself via fingers on a keyboard where you cannot express your demeanour properly - you send an email with what you think is happy cheerful funny wording but if the receiver is angry grumpy or has a different sense of humour to you then they can mistake your intentions ! Business deals and friendships can be lost.

Over the last few years even you and I have seen things a bit differently re: motorcycles but I would be more than happy to share a beer and a chat with you, in fact I would love it, should our paths cross somewhere !

It's just great that we are all different !

All the best

Gazz

Hi we went from Sydney to Birdsville last year, the only places that we could get Gas was Bourke (Mon to Friday) then up at Alice, sorry to say but you can not rely on getting Gas out in the outback areas.

Hey Steady,

When I first read your post I thought 'Geez, he must do a lot of barbecuing' to need that much LPG, then I came to realise you are referring to Autogas! I wouldn't have a clue where you can obtain that.

Be aware though that crossing the Simpson will use more than double your normal consumption so factor that into your considerations.
I don't want to have to tow you out! LOL
Cheers

Might try the motoring organisations in each state. We did this when planning our Simpson crossing last September found them very helpful. Had a great trip hope you have the same

Just for the record Steady, I saw that you got more than one reply with help. A bit of courtesy to balance the attitude would work a treat

Lyndhurst was the last autogas prior to the desert in 2012. Suggest ringing them to see if they still supply.
Lyndhurst BP Roadhouse, open 7 days 7 AM-PM (08) 86757782
Here you can even buy the place. http://www.landmarkharcourts.com.au/Property/398929/LPA2236/1-Main-Road
For a faster & more accurate response than ExOz Google is your friend ;-)

Thanks Craig ,

I have called Lyndhurst and no they do not have AUTOGAS But they do have BBQ bottles :-)) Ha ha,
Appreciate your time to reply and for those planing on travelling either Via Leigh Creek or Via Broken Hill the last Gas is at these towns.

Knowing this now we can plan how much Fuel we need to carry.

As for all the Over sensitive people who responded with defensive comments , Just learn to Chill , I was just messing with you all.

Best part about stirring the pot is you get responses from all types and the thread continues to please many.

Cheers from Flinders Island

One trick I use to see what services are available in small towns is to open Google street view. It's getting a little dated in places but you can virtually drive down the main street checking where the service stations are for example & zoom in to see if they have a gas bowser. They usually have a sign out the front so Google the business & if they don't have a web site with all their details just ring them up to confirm.
