Hi all,
planning a 3 week trip along the Barrier Highway. As we have not travelled this way before, what are the must sees? We intend to stay 3 days in BH to see Silverton etc but do not know much from BH to Dubbo. Heading from Dubbo to Tamworth for the midyear festival and back down to Melbourne through Parkes etc. Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers Steven and Kerry

hi Guys, if traveling up to Silverton well worth a look at the old jail (Goal) only if your into old stuff. The missus and I loved the old historical items dating back from turn of the century. Looking at heading that way next couple of months to follow the darling river on the east side. If your going that way keep me informed.

Dubbo, the zoo is great on a push bike, perhaps the Old Dubbo Gaol
Macquarie Marshes north of Warren (east of Nyngan) is you are into bird life
Coonabarabran make sure you go to the Warrumbungles and up to Siding Springs Observatory
On the way to Parkes, head back through Gulgong (historic town on the old $10 paper note), Mudgee and then across to Wellington & Parkes. That will keep you off the blasted Newell Highway a bit and prevent going back the same way

Wilcannia has some very beautiful buildings and worth a drive around i.e. the police station, old post office and Council building. Old nunnery but falling to bits.
Cobar- have a look at the open cut mine on the east side where the water tower is and the museum if you have time.
Parkes- don't forget the observatory and the elvis museum.

At wilcannia, do a detour to Bourke via the Darling river run :) the Louth Pub is worth a drop in ;)

Hi
When in Broken Hill places to go and see would be Flying Doctors, Pro Hart art gallery,
Scuptures in the desert ,Line of Lode. When Silverton go to the jail and Mad Max and have a drink at the pub. We had a steak sandwich which was 5'' high (beautiful).

Thanks all for your replies.

Looks like we are going to have a great time. Have changed our route a little to try and get as much in a possible. Now planning to also go to Trlby and Lightning Ridge.

Cheers and Thanks

Hi Guys
When in Lighting Ridge stay at the Opal Caravan park best in town and go to the Black Queen and Chambers of the black hand are must do attractions. To the Ridge you need about 4-5 days.
Cheers

While at Silverton take the time to watch the sunset over the Mundy Mundy plaines, take some cool refreshing beverages and nibblies sit back and enjoy. Head about 7 k out of Silverton and there is a parking place on the right hand side. Watch out for the roo's on the way back to the pub for that steak sandwich.
