I have a copy of a rare 1985 video put out by the then importers of Toyotas called Thiess Toyota. It is called "Getting Through" and features mostly the newly introduced 60 series as well as the odd 50 series and some early Hiluxs. I got it from my daughters' father-in-law (if that makes sense), who was a Toyota Franchisee (now retired).
This classic video (VHS) which is in colour and in excellent condition runs for just under 30 minutes and is really a fore-runner of the "how to 4WD" lessons. However, as it features these classic older vehicles it is more than that, and some early bushdriving locations and situations/roads are seen. The "lessons" are conducted in such places as (WA) Greenough River, Tallering Peak ; (QLD) Cape York Peninsula, Moreton Island ; ((NT) Uluru National Park ; (NSW) Blue Mountains ; amd (VIC) Toolangi State Forest.
Organisations which assisted with the making of it were: Blue Mountain Bush Fire Brigade, Commercial Motor Industries Adelaide, National Parks & Wildlife Service, Prestige Motors Pty Ltd Perth, Toyota Landcrusier Club of Australia (Sydney and QLD Branches), Forest Commission VIC, and "drivers for Theiss Toyota in all States" - presumeably none of those states was "inebriated"!
I am prepared to lend out this video to genuinely interested and reliable persons who are prepared to pay (only) registered postage costs, and who are prepared to put forward a security deposit to ensure its' return in good condition.
Reply to me next week through this forum with a contact phone No. or email address so we can make arrangements. If more than one response we will try to set up a list and timing.

Get it changed over to a CD and then you can make as many copies as you like and sell them to interested persons at a low cost or whatever.Willem

Thanks Willem. I'm not interested in selling. Don't even know if it is legal to do so. My offer was purely altruistic (phew!) - offer is for the interest of fellow 4WD enthusiasts. I have got so much out of others on Exploroz that I thought it was time to put something back in. Just don't want to lend the video to someone & then never get it back, or get it back wrecked. Haven't heard from any Toyota 4WD club members yet, but the video would make an excellent diversion on a club night. By the way I live in metropolitan Adelaide

HI Arkay,
Just a suggestion. Had some of my early 80's buffalo catching tapes ruined by lending them. Would never do it again unless I'm there to look after the tape. I had some copied and it cost me around $10 a tape.
I really admire your generosity and while 99% of people out there are good, honest and trustworthy it will only take one idiot to ruin your tape. Call me a pesimist if you want but that's life these days.
If you do look into having it copied I would be interested in having a look or maybe buy a copy (you could make a few $$ to cover your time) if you get enough interest.

Best regards
Joe

Yeah Joe, probably will get a copy made. Then keep the original safe. Problem is when & where, and the time to do it. Now that I have got myself into this I may was well follow it through, the $10 is neither here nor there. I'll see what response I get from forumites.
Trying to deal with the end-of-month hassle at work today. Flat out. That's why I said "next week" in my original post.

Yeah there are plenty of people with DVD burners now, get it preserved onto DVD and lend that out. Everytime you play that old tape it will degrade. I can put it onto DVD if you are interested, however I'm in WA (not sure where you are).
Then people can just pay the cost of the blank DVD and postage.Should probally go do some work instead of playing on this forum!

Hi Arkay,

Beware that a lot of VHS tapes of that vintage will be getting fragile with age. It may not handle too much more use, even if the person watching it is careful.

Better to get it archived off to a VCD or DVD.

I currently have a list of 9 interested people. I am trying to get a DVD copy/copies organised as this seems like the most popular and easy-to-mail format. That may take (quite) a few days, but I WILL be in touch with all 9 in due course.
Promise.

Hi Arkay
Very generous of you to offer out the tape.
I'm a member of TLC vic and it would be a great addition to our library
if you can get it copied to one of the earlier mentioned formats.
Could you let me know when you have a costing ?

Cheers
