Hi all,
Just a quick note to let you in on some background operational updates that are happening. We are in the process of moving our hosting
services around a significant amount. I really hope we can pull this off in am almost seamless transition however the scope of the tasks is massive and there may be some issues over the next 2-3 weeks.
Currently I have already moved our image servers,
EOTopo online tile server, part of our email server setups and yesterday I transferred the mobile site server code. I have yet to move the main production web site and all the database operations as these are the big ones.
The migration will be finished before the 5th July as this is the current contract termination date. I do expect some downtime in the next 2 weeks as I work to move the database
services as this is a massive task and many GB of data needs to be transferred. I expect to do these overnight to avoid too much downtime and will post in the
forum before these occur but the nature of the databases means for a great part of it I need to stop the site updating the data as it is transferred.
For those techo types we are moving from physical servers located in Qld to AWS Cloud
services located in
Sydney. On the AWS network we are using EC2, EBS, RDS, SNS, SES, S3 and linking this together using Elasticbeanstalk and Load Balancers. We have already put in 4 weeks to get this this point. A lot of work but the gain should be excellent in terms of scalability and most importantly reduced costs (I hope).
Any questions, problems or issue please let us know via
feedback or the threads I put into the system over the next few weeks as things progress.
David
PS: This is the main reason the
EOTopo release has been delayed but we are nearly there...
