Been trying to get as much info as possible about the GJR on all the past threads, but can't find exactly what I'm looking for.-----Heading along that track next week from Alice to
Marble Bar, and using my Hema books/maps etc (-I'm an oldie and not IT savvy) I'm unable to get a detailed look at the actual
Gary Junction.---When we arrive at that
junction is there any directions to Kunnawarritiji.---Jenkins track is listed, but from what I can see, there are a few other tracks heading off in different directions.---i.e south on the
Gary Hwy,etc ---Is Jenkins track shown at all with a
sign?, and does it come out north or south of Kunnawarritji on the Canning.
Also was wondering how many days to do it moving along steadily but sensibly with overnight camps----bit of a shame we have to rush it, but can't be helped
Thanks for any help......Sapper D

G'day SapperD,
It's about 1770km from Alice to
Marble Bar. We refuelled at
Kintore, (645km from Alice) which has very unusual opening times. Monday to Friday 9.30,10.30,11.30 - 2.30,3.30,4.30 -- Saturday 9.30, 10.30, 11.30 - Closed Sunday. All subject to the discretion of the attendants. Try to get local info from travellers west to east. A Police patrol dropped in on us at a
campsite west of
Papunya and told us the fuel
information for
Kintore on the HEMA map was not correct.
We also met other police patrols at
Well 33 and
Carawine Gorge, where they smoked their tyres up on
the pebbles.
5 Days should do it. Head west and keep the 44 gallon drum on your left at the
Gary Junction :-))
Enjoy the trip,
Bill
