It's hard to beat
Newnes...unless it's crowded. Easy drive in, grassy
campsite, historic
ruins to explore, river to play in or on,
toilets,
glow worm tunnel, great scenery, kangaroos and wombats, fireflies at night. If you have a 4wd then across the river is best.

You've just raised lots of questions! Basically there are lots of sites both in the bush or on the coastal belt. If you use the web and look up National Parks you'll find lots of sites in different areas. Clue when looking at the sites are to see what facilities there are and if
camp fires are allowed. Since it is family orientated and your first time then joint decisions need to be made depending on how old the kids are etc etc etc. you've made a good start by using the
forum, you just need to refine your requirements. Best of luck.

Hi
John,
Welcome to the wonderful world of camping. There are literally thousands of
places to
camp - but a lot depends on your particular requirements. How far away from
Sydney, what facilities, fee or free, what sort of attractions (beach, forest etc), access by car or 4WD - you have to help us a bit here! There are also a number of excellent publications listing free or low cost campsites. Have a look through the
Shop on this site. Also on this site is
Places where there are lots of campsites listed.
Cheers,
Val
