Gooday, Travelled the Great Central Road early August, this year and were lucky enough to have all but about 80 k's at the Laverton end not graded. Although this was corrugated it was not too bad and I understand that by now it would probably be graded, however how much traffic has been along that track by now is any one's guess.Check with the Tjukayirla Road House, they are excellent and great hosts.Esperance to Kalgoorlie, Laverton GCR to Uluru, to Alice then up to Tennant Creek hang a right toBarkly homestead, Camooweel, Mt Isa then pick a route to Brisbane. The only dirt would be the GCR. Fuel not a problem on GCR. Hope this helps. Don't forget permits for GCR, they can be obtained at Laverton.

Regards

Mike

If you have not had enough of the dirt by the time you reach Alice Springs you can also look at the Plenty Highway to Boulia (dirt/gravel road) then on to Winton (single lane sealed), then follow the signs to Brisbane..

Have fun.

went for a test run down a very good metal road....
hit a soft section and steering arm snapped at 75KPH....
bus rolled onto driver's side, slid along road and tried to suck me under it....

im lucky to be alive....

be safe everyone...

Holy cow, glad you are OK. Does this mean the big west to east trip is off?
