Well guys and girls its almost here, departure day that is. I have asked a heap of questions and have recieved enough feedback to assist me with our trip preperation that would normally have taken 12 months. I have achieved it all in just 3 months.

We will be hitting the road (ex Singleton NSW) on March 22 heading to Seal Rocks in NSW, up to Red rocks, Seaworld then Noosa, Fraser and out to Carnarvon Gorge by the end of April approximately(rainfall permitting) and then ???. Our trip will take us to Cape York, through the Gulf, down to the big rock back up to Darwin, down to the Kimberlies, Broome and environs, Ningaloo station and somehow we will end up in Perth from there by Xmas 2004.

I am 38, my wife is 36 and my son is 4 (he will make it to 5 if he starts behaving) and we have a heavy duty offroad Jumbuck camper coupled to a diesel Landcruiser.

If there is anyone that is planning a trip in a similar situation drop me a line and I will send my e-mail address. That way we can stay in touch and maybe do some of the more remote legs together. I am not suggesting we travel everywhere together, it may just be nice to be able to catch up now and then with a familiar face, recieve up to date feedback from others on a particular area or have some insurance when getting out beyond the well travelled track.

I am sure if you look for my posts in the coming months there will be some very funny stories.

Cheers,

Peter (formerly just member Peter)

Thanks Bonz,

We will be grabbing it with both hands. You know i went to the USA for the first time when i was about 25. I remeber going to Disney land and feeling like a ten year old with his own money.

This trip will rival anything we have ever done before. I have travelled exetnsively with business, Alaska, USA, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Indonesia, West Papua, PNG and of course OZ. I cant wait to visit all of those great places I have only read about and revisit some to share with my family.

I think I will have to go back to working 18 hour days at the end of it, then again I could get hit by a bus tommorrow.

Take care,

Peter

Hi Peter,
We are a family of five (three children) and we leave Sydney on 12th April heading to Queensland for three months. We plan to go through central NSW and Qld - starting with the Matilda Hwy stretch to Mt Isa, Lawn Hill NP, Karumba, Normanton across to Cairns then Cape York, back to Port Douglas and home to Sydney along the east coast by mid July. 4WD but on-road caravan, hiring a different vehicle to travel through Cape York peninsula. Drop me a line at paul_bibby@optusnet.com.au
Regards,
Paul

Peter you will be amazed at how many families around the same age as yourselves are travelling at the moment.

We went for 6 months last year (from Syd) and meet one family at Fraser and then travelled with them for 2 months and then meet another in Darwin and travelled for another 2 months with them.

You will have a ball and don't get worried about the isolation as everyone is in the same boat (4WD) and just doing there best.

If you want any top spots just let me know.

Enjoy....

We'll be on Fraser Island from 15-19 April. Our plan is to have a base camp and then do day trips.

We've got three kids, nearly 2, 7 and 14.

If you're in the area would be great to meet you
