G'day TINGA B.

Since our recent trip to NT and back I can only advise buying the Wikicamps app for a smart phone.
It costs just under $5.00 but it is great for finding both popular and discreet camping spots nearly everywhere. If you find a good spot you don't mind sharing you can add it.

Jugiong has a good free (donation) campground. Quiet being a little off the highway, with toilets or independent camping along the river. A small town worth supporting.

It depends on which way you would like to go and the amount of time you have to spend doing it.

The coast road is a very nice run as you are never far from the beaches but it will take a lot longer to get to Melbourne, mainly because there are so many distractions. The Hume is a more direct route and is fairly boring as far as road trips go but it is the shortest, yet there are many things to see and do all along the Hume if you get off the highway.

If you do not already have it I suggest you get Camps Australia wide, or Wiki camps as suggested if you are smart phone savvy, I am not, I am a ludite.

I tried downloading Wiki Camps on my computer but apparently it prefers Windows 8 O.S. as it will not download on XP.

If you can give us a little more info such as time frame and whether you want to see some attractions on the way we may be able to expand the information a bit for you.

Cheers, Bruce.
