Hi everyone,
Happy new year to all,
I have just purchased a GME TX 6150 hand held CB radio. Read the instruction manual and have a question as manufactures are not contactable until Monday the 5th.
The manual does not indicate where to attach the terminal end of the 12 volt DC vehicle lighter lead. It either fits into the desktop charger box or direct into the accessory jack on the radio itself. The terminal end of the lighter lead is smaller than the charger box jack. It may indicate the wrong lead was included in the box originally.
Whilst the lead will fit into the radios accessory jack, I don't want to try this until I know this is correct.
If anyone can confirm the answer this will be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Bob.

Bob
Just found this on another
forum - I think it will answer your question
Charging a GME TX 6150 in 12volt
Unfortunately it looks like you will be a bit disappointed.
Cheers
Anthony

Hi Bob,
My TX 6100 is charged through the desk top charger with both 240 and 12 volt power.
The charger itself is quite small and is not a problem to carry.
It does hold a charge for quit a long time and seems to sit quite securely on my console if I need to charge it when I am travelling.
Hope this helps.
Rob

Thanks Tom,
When I looked at the above link, the picture of the lighter lead has the smaller lead end, like
mine and the ebay ad. states connect to the radio direct. It seems then, that it is not necessary to connect via the cradle with the later products.
I will contact GME on Monday as they may want to make mention of this in the instruction manual because I am sure others will query it also.
Bob.

I'll be interested in the outcome, as despite having a 12 volt charger for the vehicle available, my understanding is it needs to be connected via the cradle and not into the unit directly.

Check with GME before attempting.
Tom may be onto something.
I am pretty sure one of my previous GME handhelds was charged by inserting the charger into the earphone/mic socket on the top or side.
Cheers

Hey Bob
I have the same unit (2) and it is charged via the cradle, as indicated earlier in this thread.
I only use
mine when outside the vehicle and find the charge will last quite some time, especially if you are using it in the lower power mode. Certainly more than the 24 hours that the GME website indicates.
I charge overnight off the vehicles auxiliary battery system...
Cheers,
Baz – The Landy

Hi Bob,
I have and older 5 watt GME and it too will only charge through the base. The battery is so good I have never had to do this while on the move. Just top it up at night if needed. My 12v charger lead came with 2 different sized jacks spliced into the end, I still have no idea why, I guess one part to fit different products. No complaints about the radio at all though.

Just got a confirmation from GME, that the lighter lead is fitted direct into the side of the radio. The accessories port. In the previous models it was fitted to the underside of the decktop charger as most of you stated. I suggested they make note of this in the instruction manual.
thanks again for all the replies.
