Hi to all,we are looking at doing a caravan trip up the Darling from Wentworth to Menindee Lakes and are there many free camp sites along the River ,or is it mainly private now ??,and any places we should see ? .

I believe that at the present time you could probably drive up the river bed for part of the way, but yes there are some free camps along there...tried to get into one some time ago but it was to wet.. now it is to dry, Pooncarie has a bit of history about it and once again I BELIEVE that the lakes are dry also or if not very close to it..cheers

This place is excellent Bindara Station. Not free, but fair dinkum does it hurt to pay a few dollars and help keep people on the land? I am fairly certain that there is water in the Darling at Bindara too. They have a great setup there. Cheers Toni

Trilby Station at Louth reported a few days ago that a rise in water level is on its way down the Darling. It will probably take a while to get to the lakes but I don't think you said when you were travelling. And Toni is right. Spare a few dollars for the station owners who put so much effort into providing quality accommodation on their properties.
