Can anyone tell us about
Walkers Crossing. We are travelling mid May via Camerons Corner through to the
Simpson Desert. The quickest way would be via
Walkers Crossing. Please advise if you know of any restrictions, permits, conditions at that time of year etc etc etc
Cheers

Walkers Crossing tack is now a PAR(Public Acces Route) which is a deal made between the property owners and SA Government to allow vehiclular traffic. You can do a search...type in Tracks and Access Information,South Australia,SAAFWDC......There should not be any restrictions other than not to access private property and to stick to the track.
At present the track is closed(
check this site Road Conditions) and may be for a further 6 weeks due to flooding in the area.
Cheers,

Thanks Willem. Hopefully the track will be open by the time we plan to go through and we will keep an eye on the Road Condition Site you have mentioned.

Patsy,
We came down
Walkers Crossing last August from
Birdsville. It is a great track and so much better than the long way around. It took most of the day due to local flooding, but plenty of alternate bypass tracks around big water holes. If you need updated track condition reports ring Des at the
Innamincka pub .There are always people calling in that have just come down the track so he gets regular updates.I will be going back in August for the races.
cheers

Hi Chapo!
Thanks for that. That is exactly why we are intending to travel that way, to shorten the distance. We have travelled the
Birdsville track,
Oodnadatta track and up from Innaminka via
Cordillo Downs to
Birdsville before so are trying to see/do something different. We will however be travelling by ourselves this time and would appreciate your thoughts on travelling this road solo. Can you tell us of any particular bad spots we should be wary of?
Cheers
Patsy

Only problem is that
Walkers Crossing is flooded and CLOSED and will be for some time. Ring me closer to when you leave
home and will give you conditions then.

Hi Ruth, We are heading your way as
well in July.
Question. When floding drops and Walkers Track is open, is it suitable for off road camper trailers.
Also thanks for the great reports about the recent floods in the Diamantina.
Regards
Vince

Walkers Crossing track is suitable - SD is not. Give us a ring closer to time, Vince.
