I have not been on this computer for a week, so did not get your message until yesterday.
I was in
Winton from '83 to '89. Can't remember what year we did
Diamantina Lakes.
The property had been destocked by the owners and we were doing the final inspection. If there had been any cattle in the lignum, we would have used Regulation .308 in 180 grain measures to get them out! The stockmen would have just had to push them through the maze of channels until they got out of the watercourse.
Didn't see the river in flood down there. Flew over a moderate flood in it out where the Western River joins it on Elderslie or just below. Would be a magnificent sight to see a big flow through the gates.
We are going west (from
Rockhampton) next year but will not be able to go into that country as our old Windsor van would not be able to cope with it. Will go out to
Boulia and down to
Bedourie and
Birdsville. (Slowly!)
Cheers,
Big A.
