Hi TEZ611
We did the
Hay river track last year(June 2012) from south to north, don't think you will have any problems with that as there is generally a track there, some soft sand in
places crossing some dunes when you go on some old shot lines. A good drive none the less, we enjoyed the minimal traffic.
Do you still have the notes for the Madigan as we are going there May 2014 and would appreciate any info, one of us in the group is using a sextant to keep track of where we are.
cheers and good travelling

Hi coley62. I am not ignoring you, I just cant put my hands on the notes. Travellers Track Guide #5
Simpson Desert is what I followed for the trip. It is an excellent reference book. We left old
Andado just after lunch which put us out of sync. for the good campsites listed in the book. Leave early from
Andado is a good tip.Getting strated at the "Acacia Reserve " is a bit tricky but I just followed the track to the right at the
gate and did not enter the reserve. if you do you will find a new fence with no exit. Keep the fence on your left and follow it around. Your HEMA will put you right after that. Other info re fuel and tyres are in my blog of 5/10/12. Good luck with the sextant.
Cheers
