My parents moved to
Laurieton (the closest large town to
Diamond Head) in 1946 when I was 3 years old, so I consider
Diamond Head my back yard. I moved to
Sydney in 1960 as there were no real employment opportunities in this paradise.
Kylie Tennant who published a number of books on
Diamond Head and
Laurieton was the wife of my Headmaster at
Laurieton School when I attended there. One of her more notable books (The Man on the Headland [Ernie Metcalfe]) was about
Diamond Head.
Since that time I have travelled the world a number of times and believe that this region of Australia is the best place in the world to live, I have seen nothing to compare to the beautiful beaches, the sub-tropical rainforests not far inland, the waterfalls and the climate.
Thank you for sharing this with us; the only thing I am worried about is that the area will be over-run with visitors.
