Before I moved to
Alice Springs I religiously went to the
camping shows in
Sydney believing I needed all this stuff to enhance my
camping and remote experiences. The campers we saw bent our heads, not just in features but in price :-) So we've been out here for nearly 5 years with our Prado, travelled the Tanami and stuff you'd only do if you were a local and knew where to go...So far we've
1) Bought a King Size swag, stuff the camper :-) Nothing like an open fire and then sleeping under the stars.
2)
Suspension to ride out the corrugations and with that an ARB compressor to help with pumping up the tyres after letting them down for corrugations...Nothing amazes me more than folks flogging their cars at full road pressure across the remote areas and then wondering why they break things.
3) Fridge, darn right, I would get killed if we didnt have that.
4) Roof rack and pull out awning, great to sleep under if its a tad cold outside and the roof rack, good for the 2nd tyre and more fuel up on the roof (diesel)
5) Gotta have the HF, I'm a HAM and love the crackle of HF
Nothing is worse than dragging all this stuff with you and never use. Go with the minimum and buy whatever you need as you go...
