Hi I am planning a trip to the cape. I have some people on the trip who are a bit short of time.
Can someone give me a good idea of the travel time from Cairns to Musgrave when the roads are all open.

thanks

Stuart and Gunny are pretty well spot on. Its 458 Kms from my home to Musgrave, with a coffee stop in Mareeba and lunch at Lakefield we do it in about 7 hours.

Dirt starts at Laura, so about 100 kms of dirt which was being graded after some foundations works in December the last time I was up that way.

Hi
I know I am not answering your direct question but just trying to assist
There are a number of good overnight spots on the way. From Lakeland onwards. So much so that within 45 minutes of you deciding to call it a night you wil be able to find a spot. y. There is no need to make that decision so far ahead, as that is a long stretch and depending on the conditions takes more or less out of you before you get tired.

I wouldn't be rushing a trip like that for some fellow mates..
it should be enjoyable for all on the trip than a rushed holiday where time is a deadline. For one or two people...

seen the odd vehicle smashed up on the way up, on the side of the road...as well as on a flat top tow truck.
been on a trip where they rushed it... stupid fools... busting a shock because they spent 5k on suspension soo they can drive at 120kmh... on a dirt road.
why. ..its a holiday... not a time trial on racing from here to there...
the cape isnt about that.

might as well just fly them up to weipa and go from their

I'm trying to make an itinerary that isn't stupid
