Hello

You can download the full mosaic or state sections...here is a listing of file sizes for OZF format images..

Mosaic is 3.3 GB....states vary in size from 1.2 GB (WA) to 67 MB (Tas)

Wombat,

What we should make clear is that you only need the Australia.map and Australia.ozf4 files for full coverage.

That is all I have loaded, so about 3.5gb required.

Also - Plan B

EOTopo is also available for download in ECW format which can also be used with OziExplorer

As you can see file sizes are smaller - If you go the full mosaic (EOTopo 200K Australia.ecw + *.map) you will need ~2.8GB (~600 MB less than the OZF format file).

Obviously, as with OZF format, if this is still too much you can just download and use one or more of the state ecw files which range in size from 901.4 MB (WA) to 55.1 MB (TAS), though it will of course reach a point when loading multiple individual states when as much, if not more, storage space will be taken up compared to just using the full (mosaic) map, but I am sure you get the drift.

You dont say what "device" you are using - one draw back with ECW (relative to OZF) in OziExplorer can be slower performance (but not so much these days) ...plus some CE gadgets with certain processors won't open them at all - not a problem with Android/PC.

I generally use ECW all the time as a map format as it is more universal than OZF4 (can only be used in OziExplorer)...using ECW saves having different formats of the same image for different mapping programs (well the ones I mostly use anyway).

Cheers

Thanks Greg. As always - valuable contribution.
Apart from file size- is there any 'visual' difference between the ecw & ozf formats ??

Hi

Not that I can see (on full mosaic at least) - metres per pixel for OZF and ECW are the same.

Though I do notice on the PC version you can zoom in with PC Ozi on the OZF to 750 zoom level...while with ECW your are restricted to 200 zoom level which while a bit useless for map detail (pixelation) good for zooming in on loaded tracks/waypoints etc. Not sure about Android/CE version.....

Anyway keep in mind when you purchase EOTopo you get both options (and a couple more) so you can play around yourself to get what works best for you.

If Ozi is all you muck around with OZF is best option if other factors align.

Cheers
